E.B. Hayward and Co are a Sheet metal work and fabrications company based in Ashleworth, Gloucester. They are a family-run business, which was established in 1962, and which provides a sub-contract service to many companies throughout the country.
E.B. Hayward specialises in sheet metal work and fabrications in mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, brass and copper to create a variety of products including bins, hoppers and supporting steelwork, industrial and ornamental staircases, walkways and gates, architectural metalwork, material handling equipment and specialist machinery manufacture – so they had a need for a pressbrake that could take the strain.
We caught up with Simon Hayward to find out what kind of experience he had in purchasing his Morgan Rushworth pressbrake from Selmach, and what impact it has had on the business.
Good to see the machine in action … it helped to convince me that this was the machine for us.
What was the objective of buying a new pressbrake?
We wanted to replace our old one which had worn out – it was knackered! It was of 1956 vintage, so it was older than me! We knew we’d be at an advantage to have an up-to-date, all singing and dancing machine. The Morgan Rushworth seemed to be a good replacement for what we had.
How did you hear about Selmach and why did you choose them?
I mentioned to one of our clients that I was looking for a new pressbrake and they suggested Selmach. I went in on the off chance. I did look elsewhere but Selmach were local and supplied the pressbrake that I wanted at the best price. I was able to go see how it worked in the showroom too, which very much helped with the decision.
What features attracted you to the machine your purchased?
It was the versatility of its functions and its capacity mainly – it can get a lot done.
Did the pressbrake meet your expectations?
It can do the majority of the simple things with ease, but I have some reservations with the more complicated functions, I’m struggling a bit with this. But we are due to get some more training from Selmach soon, so that should solve it.
What has been the specific impact on your business?
I think it’s too early to tell yet. Once we’ve had some more training and we can fully utilise all the functions, that’s when it’ll start really making a difference but certainly even with the basic functions, we are more productive.
